Top Five Common German Shepherd Mixes.

The German Shepherd is a very nice and versatile dog breed. It is also one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and the third most intelligent dog breed. The dog is used for several activities, from therapy, protection, guarding, bomb sniffing, and arms detection. All these activities differed from the original reason they bred the German Shepherd dog. The German Shepherd, as the name depicts, was originally bred to be a Shepherd dog. It was bred to help herders protect their sheep from wild animals. But because of the dog’s versatility and good work during world war 1 and 2, it became super popular and widely recognized.

Because the German Shepherd became so popular, it could be found and bred worldwide. This not only led to some breed alterations but also meant many other mixes with the Greman Shepherd. Some of these mixes were by accident, while others resulted from breeders trying to experiment with the breed. Have you ever wondered what some of these mixed breeds are?

Today, we will list the top ten German Shepherd mixes according to their level of commonness. Some of the mixes in this list may surprise you. The top five common German Shepherd mixes include…

  1. Belgian Malinois + German Shepherd
  2. Rottweiler + German Shepherd
  3. Boer Boel + German Shepherd
  4. Golden Retriever + German Shepherd
  5. Poodle + German German Shepherd

There are many mixes of the German Shepherd, but these are by far the most common you would find. Well, what traits do these German Shepherd Mixes possess? Let’s try to answer that to the best of our abilities.

Belgian Malinois & German Shepherd.

Belgian German Shepherd

The Belgian German Shepherd is a very popular mix of the German Shepherd. The first mixing of the breed appeared to be by accident but ever since then, we have been bumping into several variations of these breeds that we feel to have happened less by accident but purposefully.

These breeds are very active and have a balanced temperament. This is because they are closely related to the German Shepherd in how they behave and act.

They range anywhere from medium to large size dogs. They are known to be effective protection dogs due to their great strength and powerful teeth.

Rottweiler & German Shepherd.

A Shepweiler Puppy

The Rottweiler Shepherd or Shepweiler is a mixture of a German Shepherd with a Rottweiler. Breeders who did this believed they could mix the traits of the German Shepherd with the powerful size and mass of the Rottweiler.

And while these mixed breed dogs are very intelligent, a little less energetic than the average German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, their behaviors are highly unpredictable because the two dog breeds have not so much in common aside from the fact that they are both used in the police and military.

And due to the number of health complications the Rottweiler is known to have, you can expect to face some challenges owning and caring for this Dog breed.

Boer Boel & German Shepherd.

The Boer Boel shepherd or German Shepherd mastiff is the Mixture of the German Shepherd and Boer Boel dog breeds.

The combination of these two dog breeds was first done by mistake. This mixture is not easy to come by since the Boer Boel is bigger and heavier than the German Shepherd.

In most cases, we have seen this Mix breed happen. It has mostly been Male Greman Shepherd who climbs the Female Boer Boel. Most times, the Beorshepherd or German Shepherd mastiff turns out to be a great household pet and guard dog.

These dogs have short coats and are very low maintenance. If you are looking for a dog that would be a great heavy guard dog with low maintenance, then the German Shepherd Mastiff is just perfect for you.

German Shepherd & Golden Retriever.

A Golden Shepherd.

The Golden Retriever is the most common among the dogs mixed with the German Shepherd.

This mix breed dog takes mostly the looks of the Greman Shepherd, but with a golden hair coat. The dogs are high-energy breeds and, unfortunately, shed heavily. When it comes to the shedding of the breed, the Golden Shepherd is one of the most difficult to maintain.

This dog, though, is recommended for first-time owners because of the balanced temperament this dog breed is known for. They are also very intelligent, easy to train, and loyal companions, making them excellent family pets. If you want more information on the Golden Shepherd, click here.

German Shepherd & Poodle.

A Shepadoodle and German Shepherd

The German Shepherd Poodle or Shepadoodle is a mixture of a German Shepherd and a Poodle. Though these two dogs are nothing alike, they are an excellent pair of dogs when mixed. The mixture of these two breeds gives you a confident, Loyal, brave dog and a good companion dog.

If the mixing of the breed is 75% Poodle and 25% German Shepherd, you are most likely to get a dog with a nice hair coat with no shedding issues. But if the German Shepherd and Poodle Geans are shared equally, you will most likely find it difficult to predict the type of geans your dog would end up with.

But overall, this dog breed is smart, composed, easy to train and maintain, and a good family pet. We will recommend this German Shepherd mix nine out of ten.

We went through a lot of experiments with our first dog, (German Shepherd) and the internet really helped us pass through that period successfully.

This website is a way we give back to the community of dog lovers, sharing what we know and have come to learn.
