To help you pick the perfect dog, you need to consider your personality, living situation, and other important key factors.

Things To Consider Before Choosing A Dog

Some of the things you need to think about before getting a dog include but aren’t limited to the following:

Personality.

You should pick a dog with the same personality as yours, or it would not be easy to co-exist. If you’re too much of a neat freak, then a dog who loves to swim in the dirt is not for you.

Level of Energy.

The level of energy of your dog should match yours. If you’re lazy and don’t like the outdoors, then your choice of dog shouldn’t be dogs that require lots of daily physical and outdoor exercise.

Maintenance.

If you have a tight schedule, shuffling your job, school, and date night with the boys or girls, you don’t want to add dogs with a high-maintenance coat to your to-do list. Picking a low-maintenance breed is advisable because you’ll need to devote time to grooming your dog’s skin. And what you don’t have, is time. Some species will have health implications if poorly groomed.

Shedding.

Depending on the dog breed, some shed their hair more than others. Hair shedding means you’d get to clean your house more often. So, if you’re the type that cleans up your home only when expecting visitors, please, get a breed that sheds its hair sparingly.

Size.

Usually, guys prefer big dogs with a masculine appearance, while ladies prefer dogs that are small and cute, so they can play dress up. Of course, there are exceptions.

Budget.

If you’re on a tight budget, you shouldn’t consider getting a dog breed that requires professional grooming, as this would cost some extra money outside your budget.

We’ve come up with a list of the top ten dogs that we feel are suitable for both single and women.

The Top Ten Dogs for Single Men and Women.

Dobermann Pinscher.

As a tax collector, Louis Dobermann needed robust and reliable guard dogs to accompany him to collect taxes. Hence, he created the Dobermann as guard dogs.

This breed is a good choice for single ladies because they have an intimidating look and would make intruders hesitate from breaking into your home. The Dobermann isn’t just a protective dog. It is affectionate and loyal and can easily live with you inside your home.

Dobermann Pinscher is easy to maintain. It doesn’t need to have its bath often. A quick daily brush with a short brush will keep its skin healthy and shiny. If you’re a busy lady, this dog is a good choice.

2. English Bulldog.

The English Bulldog is a go-to dog for a lazy and introverted guy. An English Bulldog would only get aggressive and defend you only when it senses you are in danger. Besides this, this dog breed spends its time lying on the couch. They are adorable, serve as a great companion for their fellow introverted people and have a heart of gold.

Because they lack interest in seeing the outside world, you don’t need to worry about taking them out for long physical activities. However, they enjoy short walks and don’t need physically demanding exercise on health grounds.

English bulldogs shed their hair moderately. Use a short brush to brush its coat twice or thrice weekly to keep it looking sharp. However, wipe the wrinkles on its face regularly to prevent skin infection.

3. Labrador Retriever.

The Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever is good for outgoing single ladies and guys living alone. They are highly playful and friendly and can overwhelm visitors during the greeting stage. This dog is excellent for hikers, joggers, and active people.

Labrador retrievers are intelligent and easy to train. They require daily exercise to keep their weight in check. They have thick, water-repellant double coats that shed. Occasionally give the Labrador Retriever its bath to keep it clean. Regularly trimming their nails and frequently brushing their teeth is necessary.

4. Akita.

The Akita

Are you an athletic person that loves to engage in strenuous sporting activities? Then an Akita is your perfect match. They are fluffy yet muscular dogs who are lively, fun, and willful. They are strong, devoted, and fearless guard dogs, making them the ideal dogs to keep single ladies safe.

Akitas are clean by nature, minimally shed, and have little ‘dog odor.’ Their neat nature makes them ideal for neatniks. Although an Akita doesn’t require much grooming, their thick double coat needs brushing once a week to look its peak. So, if you are generally busy, you could also consider choosing this breed.

5. French Bulldog.

French Bulldog

The French Bulldog is a lively, cute and devoted companion to their owners. They have a muscular yet compact build that doesn’t make them look feminine. They are an excellent choice for guys who love smaller dogs. This dog is a social butterfly. You could partner up with this breed if you’re equally a social butterfly.

They are pretty challenging to train as they are playful, but it is attainable once you tap into their desire to play. This breed doesn’t require a lot of exercise for health reasons, just like their English counterparts.

The Frenchie’s short coat shed minimally. Brush the fur of this doggie weekly to promote new hair growth; this helps it look healthy. The facial folds should be kept dry and clean. Also, trim their nails regularly.

6. Boxer.

The Boxer Dog

Boxers are friendly, playful, and energetic; this makes them excellent companions for those who love adventure and physical activities. They are handsome and manly as they have broad shoulders, but they also attract the ladies because they are clean. This dog is great for both single men and ladies.

A boxer requires a good amount of physical activity. They are easy to groom as they have short and shiny coats. Boxer dogs tend to be clean dogs, so occasionally, they can have their bath. But to prevent tartar build-up, we recommend brushing the Boxer’s teeth once or twice a week.

7. Golden Retriever.

The Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers want to hang out, play, and get some love from their owners. They are friendly with just about anybody and can help you make friends quickly.

Although friendly, a Golden Retriever can also be protective and on the lookout for dangers. They moderately shed but heavily shed their thick water-repellant hairs once or twice yearly. When they heavily shed, brushing becomes a daily activity. Goldens have their bath occasionally to keep them clean. Don’t forget to trim their nails regularly.

8. Great Dane.

The Great Dane

For single ladies living alone, the Dane is one of the best dogs for your protection. Ladies, though, find their drooling nature repulsive.

Although popularly referred to as ‘gentle giants,’ Great Danes are powerful and terrific guard dogs. They have an intimidating appearance, and this can scare intruders away. The Great Dane is not all too friendly, but they are polite to strangers. They are loving, devoted and thoughtful. They are lowkey, great pets for single guys.

The Dane’s short coat doesn’t shed much, but because of its massive size, the ‘little’ hair is still a lot of hair. So, brushing it weekly with a medium brush would reduce shedding to its minimum. They should occasionally bathe and have their nails regularly trimmed.

9. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

If you’re clingy, then this dog is perfect for you. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel loves to be pampered and cuddle. They are cute and friendly. This dog breed is adaptable as they can be active and athletic or couch potatoes depending on the owner’s lifestyle.

This dog’s lustrous and silky coat requires a little above regular brushing and occasional baths to keep it looking beautiful. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel should have their ears checked weekly for signs of infection and its nails at least trimmed once a month.

10. German Shepherds.

The German Shepherd

The German Shepherd is a naturally bred service or guard dog. They are large, powerful, and have a ferocious and threatening bark, making them a wise choice for single ladies or guys who take walks at night or are alone at home. With the dog in your home, you’re sure the intruders would avoid your house.

German Shepherds are also intelligent, affectionate, and loyal dogs, ready to put their lives on the line for their owners.

This dog breed is easily maintained and requires a quick brush every few days. The German Shepherd only needs an occasional bath and monthly nail trimming.

Conclusion.

Your choice of a canine best friend reflects your personality or pocket size. There are many sweet-loving dogs to choose from who are cute, provide protection, and are a great source of companionship.

Like every relationship, building a close and healthy relationship with your dog requires a great deal of patience, bonding or playtime and adequate care. Once you’ve established this relationship, be assured that whatever breed you pick will be loyal, dependable, and best friends with you.
